Joe Cutler Folk Music: Daithi's Dumka
A collaborative short film made with Alexandra Wolkowicz in response to the music of Joe Cutler. This film was screened alongside the performance by The Smith Quartet at the Bluecoat in September 2008 as part of the Audiovision Festival. Folk music has some of its roots in dance - and this composition creates a sometimes beautiful, sometimes discordant dance. The film accompaniment is therefore a dance of nature- of the landscape and natural light-play of the sunlight, insects and birds. Although produced in the UK, the scene is of memories of the Polish countryside; wild and beautiful. Mood changes occur as the sunlight bathes the scene. Layers of shadow puppetry and re-filmed video projections are used to create a low tech, hand made feel which is a bit like old 8mm movie footage.
